Encare’s Analysis module enables healthcare professionals to monitor compliance with ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) protocols and evaluate how clinical practices influence patient outcomes. Users needed to answer questions such as: Which hospitals achieve the best outcomes?Which ERAS interventions have the greatest impact?Where are compliance gaps occurring?How do results compare across different patient groups? Existing workflows made these analyses possible, but required navigating multiple filters, views and datasets that increased cognitive load and slowed exploration. The challenge was not simply to display more data, it was to help clinicians find answers more efficiently while maintaining flexibility for advanced analysis.To better understand how clinicians approached data analysis, we collaborated closely with healthcare professionals throughout the design process. Flexibility came at the expense of simplicity: Experienced users appreciated powerful analysis capabilities, while newer users found the interface intimidating. Benchmarking required multiple steps: Comparing hospitals, protocols or patient populations often involved repetitive actions and unnecessary navigation. Design goals: Rather than just redesigning the interface visually, I focused on improving the overall analytical workflow. The objectives were to: Simplify complex analysis tasksReduce cognitive loadImprove discoverability of insightsSupport faster comparisonsCreate a scalable foundation for future analytics features The solution: The redesigned experience introduced several improvements: Better data hierarchy and navigation:&nbsp;Visual emphasis was adjusted so users could identify trends and key metrics more quickly. Streamlined benchmarking:&nbsp;Comparison workflows were redesigned to reduce repetitive actions and support faster evaluation across hospitals, protocols and patient populations. Scalable design system:&nbsp;New components were integrated into the design system, creating consistency across dashboards while supporting future expansion. Outcome: Although the project continues to evolve, the redesign established a stronger foundation for future analytics capabilities. The new experience supports clinicians in: Exploring data more efficientlyIdentifying trends fasterComparing performance across organizationsMaking evidence-based decisions with greater confidence Reflection: Working closely with clinicians highlighted the importance of balancing flexibility with simplicity. Every new option introduces additional complexity, so careful information architecture and progressive disclosure became essential to creating an interface that remained powerful without becoming overwhelming. Authentication is the first interaction users have with a digital product. It sets expectations, establishes trust, and directly influences how easily users can access the platform. For G-loot, the authentication experience needed to support multiple sign-in methods, account management flows and onboarding scenarios while remaining simple, fast and intuitive for a global gaming audience. Research &amp; analysis / UX / UI / Prototype&nbsp;/ User testing 2022 G-Loot, later rebranded as Stryda, was a Stockholm-based esports company specializing in stats tracking, player identity, and competitions. It permanently ceased operations in 2023. Before designing new interfaces, I mapped the complete authentication journey. This revealed several opportunities to improve the experience: Reduce friction:&nbsp;Users should reach the platform with as few unnecessary steps as possible.Improve clarity: Authentication failures often leave users uncertain about what happened or how to recover.Maintain consistency:&nbsp;Registration, login, password recovery and verification should feel like one connected experience rather than separate features. Clearer feedback: Validation messages, loading states and error handling were redesigned to help users understand what was happening and how to resolve issues. Consistent interactions: Common interaction patterns were applied across login, registration and account recovery to reduce the learning curve. Scalable foundation: The design established reusable patterns that could support future authentication methods and account management features. Outcome: The redesigned authentication experience created a smoother entry point into the platform while providing a consistent foundation for future product growth. The solution helped users: Complete authentication with fewer interruptionsRecover from errors more easilyUnderstand authentication states more clearlyMove from account creation to product usage more efficiently Reflection: Authentication is one of the few product experiences that every user encounters, making even small usability improvements highly impactful. This project reinforced the importance of designing for edge cases as carefully as the primary flow. Filtering is one of the most critical interactions within Encare’s analytics platform. It allows clinicians to explore compliance and outcome data across hospitals, patient populations, procedures and protocols. The filtering system expanded significantly, introducing new dimensions and increasingly complex user scenarios. The challenge was to redesign the experience so users could build sophisticated queries without increasing cognitive load. Product Design / UX Research / Information Architecture / Prototyping / User testing 2024Encare is a HealthTech company based in Stockholm, specializing in the development of cloud-based solutions to enhance surgical care. As additional analytical capabilities were introduced, users faced several challenges: Understanding which filters were availableRemembering previously applied selectionsNavigating large sets of filtering optionsBuilding advanced queries efficientlyMaintaining context while exploring data Rather than adding more controls, the objective was to rethink how users interacted with filters altogether. Understanding the problem: Through discussions with clinicians, product stakeholders and internal teams, several recurring issues emerged: Cognitive overload:&nbsp;The number of available filters made the interface increasingly difficult to scan and understand. Poor discoverability:&nbsp;Users often knew the data they wanted to analyse but struggled to locate the appropriate filtering options. Inconsistent behaviour:&nbsp;Similar filters behaved differently depending on context, creating uncertainty and reducing user confidence.Ineffective filtering logic: The logic behind filter combinations was leading user into invalid data results Limited scalability:&nbsp;The existing solution worked for current requirements but would become increasingly difficult to extend as the product continued to grow. The previous filtering ecosystem consisted of multiple components that were part of a shared flow but scattered across different areas of the interface. This made it extremely difficult for users to locate all elements, understand their connections, and effectively use the filtering functionality. Quick Filters: Misleadingly named, as they were simply ordinary filters placed in a modal. They were intended to highlight the most commonly used filters. Advanced Filters: A comprehensive list of filters categorized by the different phases of the surgical cycle, from admission to discharge and follow-up. Series: A feature that allows users to create control groups and compare different sets of filters. Users can create up to eight series. Filter Recap: A hidden popup, accessible via an item in the right bar menu, summarizing active filters.Bookmarks:&nbsp;A space for saving sets of active filters. Moreover, filters applied an AND logic by default, frequently resulting in no valid data (e.g. selecting both “female” and “male” would yield no results, as no patient can be both). A more intuitive OR logic, which better aligns with users’ mental models, would have improved usability. Design goals: The redesign focused on creating a filtering system that could scale with the product while remaining intuitive for everyday users. series creation were merged into a single modal box that functions similarly to a web browser. Users can create multiple series, similar to browser tabs, and assign a unique set of filters to each one.The redesigned filtering system introduced a more structured and scalable interaction model: Improved hierarchy: Filters were organised into logical categories, reducing visual complexity and making navigation easier.Better visibility: Applied filters became easier to identify, edit and remove, improving users’ awareness of the current analysis context.Consistent interactions: Reusable interaction patterns were introduced across the platform, reducing the learning curve and supporting future feature development.Scalable architecture: The new structure provides a flexible foundation for adding future filters without compromising usability. Outcome: The redesigned filtering experience made complex data exploration easier while providing a scalable framework for future analytical capabilities. The existing dashboard contained numerous metrics and visualisations, but lacked a clear visual hierarchy and a strong sense of context. The redesign therefore went beyond improving the visual presentation of the dashboard. The goal was to transform it into a more flexible and actionable analytical tool, one that would help users understand not only what is happening, but also how their organisation compares, what is changing, where attention is needed, and what they can do about it. The redesign focused on answering five fundamental questions as quickly as possible: How engaged are employees overall?Which areas or teams require attention?How does engagement compare with relevant benchmarks?How has engagement changed over time?What can we do to improve results? The dashboard serves multiple audiences, each with different goals: HR professionals need a comprehensive overview of engagement across the organisation, allowing them to identify recurring patterns, compare departments and organisational segments, benchmark results against other companies, and monitor long-term improvements. Managers are primarily interested in understanding the wellbeing and engagement of their own teams, recognising where intervention may be necessary, and tracking whether actions are having an impact. Executives require a concise summary that communicates the overall health of the organisation, highlights areas of concern, and provides meaningful comparisons without overwhelming them with operational detail. Despite their different perspectives, these users share a common need: transforming complex survey data into clear, contextual, and actionable insights. Design principles: Prioritise information:&nbsp;The most important metrics should be immediately visible. Overall engagement and key indicators become the visual entry point, allowing users to assess organisational health within seconds. The summary was redesigned to surface the most relevant positive and negative signals immediately, helping users pinpoint what is going well and what requires attention without having to interpret multiple charts first. Provide context, not just numbers:&nbsp;Individual metrics become significantly more meaningful when paired with historical trends, benchmarks, or comparisons. The expanded benchmarking functionality allows users to compare their results across different scenarios, including departments, organisational segments, countries, and industries. This gives users a clearer understanding of whether a result is isolated or part of a broader pattern. Make change visible:&nbsp;Understanding the current state is only part of the picture. The redesign introduced&nbsp;trend visualisation to make changes in engagement and key indicators easier to identify over time. Rather than requiring users to compare individual data points, trends provide an immediate sense of direction and help reveal improvements, deterioration, and emerging patterns. Support different ways of working: Not every user needs to focus on the same KPIs. The dashboard was therefore designed to be configurable, allowing users to reconfigure the interface and decide which key indicators are most relevant to them. This shifts the dashboard from a fixed reporting page towards a more personalised analytical workspace. Turn insight into action:&nbsp;The dashboard should not stop at identifying a problem. A new Insights section connects data with potential actions, providing suggestions on what users can do to improve their results. This creates a progression from understanding performance → identifying opportunities → taking action. Support exploration: The dashboard encourages users to begin with a high-level overview before progressively exploring specific departments, dimensions, benchmarks, or time periods. This reduces cognitive load while still enabling deeper analysis when needed. The solution: The redesigned dashboard establishes a clear information hierarchy that guides users from broad organisational insights to detailed engagement analysis. A new and more focused summary experience provides an immediate snapshot of organisational health. Key performance indicators are positioned prominently, while positive and negative signals are surfaced clearly so users can quickly understand where things are going well and where attention may be required. Expanded benchmarking: One of the central goals of the redesign was to significantly expand the existing benchmarking functionality. Users can now explore their results across a broader range of comparison scenarios, including countries, industries, departments, and organisational segments. Supporting visualisations make these comparisons easier to interpret, helping users understand their position relative to relevant benchmarks rather than viewing their scores in isolation. Trend visualisation:&nbsp;Trend visualisations were introduced to make changes over time easier to understand. Instead of relying on individual values, users can quickly identify whether engagement is improving, declining, or remaining stable, and use this context alongside benchmark data to interpret performance.Configurable KPIs: The dashboard was also designed around the idea that different users have different priorities. Users can reconfigure the interface and select the KPIs they want to focus on, creating a more relevant overview of the information that matters most to them.From data to insights: A brand-new Insights section extends the dashboard beyond reporting and analysis. Based on the engagement results, it highlights relevant findings and provides suggestions for potential actions that could help improve performance. This creates a more direct connection between the data and the decisions users need to make. Across the experience, charts were simplified to improve readability and consistency, while card layouts, spacing, typography, and colour usage were refined to create a lighter and more approachable interface. Interactive filtering allows users to move between departments, time ranges, countries, industries, and other organisational segments while maintaining the overall context of their analysis. The Wallet is the financial hub of the G-loot platform, allowing players to manage their virtual currencies, rewards and purchases from a single place. The challenge was to create an experience that gave users confidence when interacting with digital assets while keeping complex transaction information easy to understand. The goal wasn’t simply to display financial information, it was to help users understand where their assets came from, how they could be used, and what actions were available next. Players expect immediate feedback and complete confidence when interacting with virtual currencies. Several design challenges quickly became apparent: Multiple currencies: Different balances and reward systems increased cognitive load (tokens, coins, tickets, and prize money). Limited transparency: Users needed clearer visibility into previous transactions and account activity.Encouraging engagement: The wallet should not only inform users, but also encourage them to redeem rewards and continue participating within the platform.Building trust: Financial interfaces require consistency, clear feedback and predictable interactions. Should balances or recent activity receive the most emphasis?Transaction history: Several layouts were explored to improve readability while supporting large numbers of transactions. Reward visibility: How could rewards become more discoverable without competing with essential financial information?Action prioritisation: Exploring different placements fordeposit, withdraw, redeem, purchase, transfer to support users’ most common actions. The solution: The redesigned wallet introduced a clearer structure for managing digital assets: Clear account overview: Balances and available assets were prioritised, helping users immediately understand their current status. Improved transaction history: Activity became easier to scan, providing greater transparency into purchases, rewards and account changes. Better action hierarchy: Primary actions were given greater prominence, reducing unnecessary navigation. Scalable component system: Reusable UI patterns established a foundation for future financial features and additional virtual currencies. Redesigning the Dynamic Response System ​(DRS), an internal CryEngine authoring tool used by game designers to create dynamic interactions, contextual dialogue, and gameplay behaviours without writing code. The inability to be self-explanatory, due to hidden functionalities and actions, was affecting the learning curve for new users and the dialogue management by experienced users. The DRS is divided into three main sections: The Dialog Database: where lines of dialogue for game characters are stored. The Responses: where lines can be associated with specific in-game events. The Variables: used to create complex event flows. In the previous dialog database, dialogue lines were listed as uneditable items, with no clear affordances indicating they could be edited. Users had to right-click on a line to discover a popup with various editing options. Additionally, each line contained several properties, which users could only edit by right-clicking each individual property. These property affordances were not differentiated, and dropdown menus appeared the same as text inputs, for example. There was no clear button to suggest the action of creating a new line in the editor, and batch editing (editing multiple lines at once) was not allowed, which caused significant frustration among users. Grouping lines into folders was not possible, preventing users from organizing the database in a more efficient way. Both the Responses and Variables sections featured a highly nested and unintuitive layout, lacking primary call-to-action elements and self-explanatory features to guide users through the process. Understanding the workflow: The goal of the redesign was to make all primary actions immediately accessible and enhance flexibility in managing the dialog database. A main toolbar with editing capabilities was added, along with a prominent new ‘Add Line’ button. Line properties were redesigned to adopt distinct styles based on their function, such as dropdown menus and input fields. Affordances were redesigned to more clearly convey their function and usage, making them more self-explanatory. Batch editing and folder creation were introduced, along with the ability to filter lines according to various parameters, facilitating more effective organization of the database and search activities. The new layout for the Responses section was divided into three areas, creating a sequential workflow. Each section can be hidden depending on the user’s stage, allowing them to focus solely on the activities of interest. Additional fields and affordances were added to enhance guidance, along with visual cues, such as the tree structure in the list sections. The Variables section adopted a similar approach to the Responses section, featuring a two-area layout and using the same tree structure to visualize complex dialog line interactions across different scenarios. Information is organized according to the user’s mental model, allowing response structures to be understood more quickly. Improved visual hierarchy highlights relationships between conditions, actions, and events, while consistent interaction patterns reduce unnecessary context switching. The layout was optimized to maximize workspace without sacrificing discoverability, enabling designers to comfortably work with larger and more complex response graphs. Small usability improvements, including clearer grouping, improved navigation, and more consistent controls, collectively create a significantly smoother authoring experience. As additional commands, modes, and shortcuts are added, interfaces often become crowded and increasingly difficult to navigate. The existing toolbar exposed a large number of actions with limited visual organization, forcing users to spend unnecessary effort locating frequently used tools and understanding relationships between commands. The challenge was not to remove functionality, but to reorganize it in a way that improved speed without disrupting established workflows.Unlike consumer applications, game engine editors are used continuously throughout the working day. Users develop strong muscle memory and expect interfaces to support rapid interaction with minimal interruption. Even small usability improvements can have a meaningful impact when repeated hundreds of times every day. The redesign therefore focused on preserving familiarity while reducing friction during common editing tasks. Design principles: Organize by workflow:&nbsp;Rather than presenting tools as a long collection of buttons, related actions were grouped according to how designers naturally perform editing tasks. Improve discoverability:&nbsp;Clear visual grouping, spacing, and icon consistency make it easier for both experienced and new users to locate commands without slowing their workflow. editing experience while maintaining the flexibility expected from a professional game engine. Commands were reorganized into logical groups that reflect common editing workflows, making navigation more intuitive and reducing visual scanning. Spacing, iconography, and alignment were refined to improve readability and create stronger visual relationships between related tools. The toolbar editor window is divided into two sections. On the left, users can navigate, search, and select commands to add to toolbars. On the right, they can create and edit multiple toolbars simultaneously using a new, clearly visible plus button. Commands can be easily dragged and dropped from the left database area to the toolbar section on the right. Each toolbar includes an input field for renaming, and a trash icon on the right allows for quick deletion. This new setup ensures the toolbar list remains always accessible, making creation and editing more seamless. Additionally, the interface now features more intuitive affordances and guiding elements to enhance usability. The overall result is an interface that feels lighter and easier to navigate while preserving the efficiency required by experienced users. Design impact: The redesign was intended to improve everyday productivity across multiple disciplines working inside the Sandbox Editor. While experienced users understood the system, newcomers often faced a steep learning curve, and even experts encountered unnecessary friction when moving between different tools. The challenge was to modernize the overall experience while preserving the speed and flexibility required by experienced game developers. Understanding the users: The Sandbox editor serves multiple disciplines working simultaneously throughout the development process: Level designers build gameplay spaces and iterate on level layouts.Environment artists create visually rich worlds using terrain, vegetation, and assets.Technical designers configure gameplay systems and interactions.Programmers test features and debug game behaviour. Although each discipline uses different tools, they all depend on a consistent interface that enables rapid iteration without interrupting their creative flow. The project aimed to rethink traditional performance reviews by replacing rigid appraisal processes with a more flexible, continuous approach centered around regular 1:1 conversations between managers and employees. While they provide valuable documentation, they frequently fail to support continuous employee growth or meaningful conversations between managers and team members. The initial product concept addressed this need but existed only as a medium-fidelity prototype. Many workflows were incomplete, several features had yet to be defined, and the interface lacked a consistent visual language. The challenge was to transform an early concept into a complete product experience that supported everyday people management while remaining simple enough for managers to adopt independently. Understanding the users: The platform serves two primary audiences with different responsibilities: Managers need an intuitive workspace that helps them prepare meetings, document discussions, follow up on commitments, and support employee development without relying heavily on HR. HR professionals require a scalable framework that encourages consistent performance conversations across the organization while providing structure without becoming overly prescriptive. The design therefore focused on balancing flexibility with consistency—allowing managers to adapt conversations to individual employees while maintaining an organization-wide development process. Design principles: Encourage continuous dialogue:&nbsp;Rather than positioning performance management as a periodic event, the experience promotes frequent conversations that strengthen collaboration and support long-term employee development. A personalized dashboard provides managers with an overview of upcoming meetings, outstanding action points, deadlines, and ongoing employee development activities, helping them stay organized and proactive. At the heart of the platform is a flexible meeting builder inspired by modern document editors. Instead of relying on fixed forms, managers can assemble meeting templates using modular content blocks, combining discussion topics, rating questions, action items, and free-form notes into conversations tailored to individual employees and specific situations. The platform also introduces dedicated areas for meeting management, goal tracking, action points, reusable template libraries, and future reporting capabilities, creating a complete ecosystem for ongoing employee development. To further support managers, an expandable panel provides contextual guidance throughout the process. It offers best practices for preparing meetings, suggestions for meaningful conversations, access to learning resources through the Simployer E-learning platform, and intelligent recommendations that help managers conduct more effective development discussions. Together, these features transform performance management from an administrative process into an ongoing coaching experience.
